The
1400 and 1500’s were centuries of wars, in which San Giorgio had taken
part and suffers many sacks. It is this period in which San Giorgio also
suffered many urbanistic interventions, for military purposes, of which
it is still possible to find traces in the particular structuralization
of the historical center. In this same period, the Francescan convent had
been erected as an act of divine supplication. And to that convent the
miraculous figure of blessed Candido Ranzi (whose mortal remains are preserved
in the parish church) is bound.
A moment of glory for the village happened in 1523, when the Emperor Carlo the 5th established the birth of the county of San Giorgio. That is the title which, since that moment, the Biandrates began to call themselves.
With the peace of Cherasco, in 1631, San Giorgio became part of Savoy lands. After many centuries of influence a less important historical period of the village begins. In that period, in aid of troubled clergy, were born the Compagnia of San Giorgio and the three ward confraternities, which are still active today.
