The
end of the 1700’s begins a period of very important men of San Giorgio;
perhaps the elements which most distinguishes this little village are the
historic politician Carlo Botta, the lyric singer Teresa
Belloc (who was Rossini’s favorite), the inventor Antonio Michela (the
creator of the phonostenographic machine), the scientist Carlo Ignazio
Giulio, the engraver Michele Pechenino, the navy engineer Carlo Vigna (co-designer
of the first Italian submarine, the "Delfino" - "Dolphin"),
the Hellenist mons. Marco Pechenino and many others, who contributed in
making San Giorgio "The Athens of Canavese".
Famous during the revolutionary period is the "Government of the three Carls" appointed during the French occupation of the Piedmont which consisted of an executive commission made up by three members: Carlo Bossi, the Sangiorgese Carlo Botta and Carlo Stefano Giulio. That commission distinguished itself by the important measures taken in many situations which can be traced in Turin.
